Darryl, Cindy and Justin headed to Belle Rose, Louisiana
to do some testing at the No Problem Raceway on Thursday. The weather was very humid, hot, and rain showers every now and
then.
After
the first pass during bearing check they found a cracked crank and that ended the testing session. Darryl and Justin stayed
up late getting the motor ready to drop in the car. Justin had already been committed to another team for the weekend but
he helped out when possible. So Rex, Darryl and sometimes Justin got the car ready to run the first qualifying pass on Friday
evening.
Darryl pulled down a 5.476 @ 266.79 which put him
in the second qualifying position and the team was thrilled with the performance. Kevin and Shelly came in late Friday night
to help out for the weekend. Saturday morning, Darryl and Rex decided to check the rod that the bearing had been showing extra
wear and they found a cracked crank. So the team replaced the crank and was ready for qualifying two.
It was very hot, humid and off and on sunny. Second
round saw Darryl smoked the tires at the hit! Not good. Third round was even
worse when Darryl hit the pedal the car lurched out 20 feet and stopped dead in its tracks. The team towed the car off the
track and began dissecting the engine only to find a BROKEN crank! So that makes
4 cranks in two races. Time for new cranks!
The last motor went in during a late Saturday night.
The team was ready and Darryl did his job pulling out ahead of his competition
at the hit and for most of the pass but unfortunately, three cylinders dropped. Darryl
felt the car lose power and saw Malcom Wahle fly by so Darryl shut down to prevent further damaged. Considering the last few
passes, he was being very cautious however the crank was intact. But it was very
exciting until the win light came on.
Darryl located another crank in Houston, Texas. Cindy
took the van and left at 2:00 pm , picked up the crank and made it home at 2:00 am . Darryl, Justin, Kevin and Shelly worked
two days getting everything ready for the national event at Ennis, Texas that Friday.
