The weather was nearly perfect for the Lucas Oil
NHRA Nationals held in Indianapolis, Indiana until it was time for the fourth qualifying session for Top Alcohol Dragster.
Tera Wendland and Rex Albrecht flew in to join Justin Haynes, Cindy and Darryl Hitchman already there. Tonia, a super comp
driver was temporary help for the weekend.
The team pulled out a 5.498 at 266.85 mph for the
10th place in the first qualifying pass. The second pass was supposed to be run at 4:00 on Friday however that
was changed to Saturday morning. The car ran slower on the second pass dropping one cylinder early in the run. It slowed to
a 5.548 @ 251.49.
Third round qualifying was at 5:00 pm and Darryl
dropped four more cylinders and ran a slower 5.710 @ 258.12 which put him in
the 19th position. The team was looking forward to the fourth qualifying pass to pull up into the 16 car field.
Due to rain, NHRA cancelled the pass and the hopes of the team to make it in. With the car running so good in Brainerd, the
team was so hopeful they would place in the top eight at Indianapolis but it was not to be.
The team got the car ready for the divisional race
in Earlville, Iowa and pulled out Sunday evening. Tera and Toni flew home but Rex , Justin, Cindy and Darryl drove to Earlville.
