Waiting for the sign to fire!

The weather had an impact on the NHRA Lucas Oil Series divisional race held in Ennis, Texas on April 3, 2009.The original schedule was to run the third and final qualifying pass on Saturday and eliminations on Sunday. However, due to the several weather predicted on Sunday, the officials decided to cut one qualifying pass out and run the eliminations Saturday evening. The final round for Top Alcohol Dragster was run at 3:00 am Sunday morning!

Tara and Kevin Wendland joined the team for the weekend, along with Tim Young, Justin Haynes, and Rex Albrecht. The first pass was a 5.572 @ 260.41 and the second pass was a 5.597 @ 251.34. Darryl qualified number 6 and was match up against Shawn Langdon. Darryl hit the pedal and smoked the tires causing him to go sideways and take out a cone. The team held their breath as Darryl got control of the car and continued down the track. Tara one of the crew members stated she saw the whole side of the car at one point but Darryl is a very good driver and recovered with the car intact. That was not the case with another racer in the class as David Braunkowski hit the sand and destroyed his car. Fortunately, he was intact!

The team is headed to Great Bend, Kansas for another divisional race on April 24, 2009.
