The rainy weather blew through the vast
amount of race trailers at the O”Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Baytown, Texas on March 27, 2009. The race was local
to the team’s home and that brought some of the hometown relatives to the pits including Brenda’s son Nicholas
and Tim’s mother Michelle, Kevin Wendland and eldest daughter Tara joined
the team. CJ and Kelady Wendland also came for a visit.
To prevent another blown engine, Darryl
let off during the first qualifying pass after he felt the engine lay over. He
pulled down a 6.271 @ 170.45. The second pass out he made a full pass at 5.855 @ 231.64. When the third qualifying pass was
eliminated due to rain, the 5.855 ET put the team in the 20th position of a 16 car field. Everyone was quite disappointed
but it was later found that the BDK valve that controls the fuel was stuck and contributed to the problems at the previous
race in Gainesville, Florida.
The team packed it up and headed home to
get ready for the next race at the Texas Motorplex.
